Why We Created the PureWow 20 in ’20

For the past ten years, PureWow’s mission has been to celebrate women. And in 2020—more than ever before—that mission means honoring the voices working for change.
We’ve partnered with Citi to create the “PureWow 20 in ’20,” a list that spotlights 20 up-and-coming leaders striving to make a meaningful impact. From the 18-year-old climate activist to the beauty mogul who started “Pull Up for Change,” these women are leading the way with one common goal: to make things better for all of us.
The 20 in ’20 honorees were chosen based on the impact they’ve made this year in one of three pillars: equality, sustainability and workforce development (although many span all three). They were nominated by a panel of impressive judges: Cari Champion, host of the podcast “The Brownprint”, Squarespace's Kinjil Mathur, PureWow's own Mary Kate McGrath and Carla Hassan, head of marketing at Citi for whom supporting women is a core value.
“Citi is a company that has a history of pushing for change, and we know we must live our values while promoting and protecting them. That’s why we continuously look for opportunities to amplify our corporate values and support initiatives that articulate what we believe in as a company,” says Hassan. “Working with PureWow, we are excited to elevate the voices of up-and-coming leaders effecting change in their communities and around the world.”

Mathur also adds, “As far as women in the workplace have come, we’re not even close to parity. In fact, I often find women from different industries sharing their experiences that feel like we haven't really even come that far at all. I’m thrilled to support this program because no matter how hard some mountains are to move, there are simple actions we can all take to be part of the solution and there is a simple truth (and action) to ‘praising is upraising.’” So go ahead, read the list, share these stories and continue praising one another.
